What is the impact of having a regular primary care provider on hospitalizations, mortality, and overall cost? At a recent Lown Institute lunchtime presentation, we heard from Dr. Jonathan Fitzsimon, clinical researcher and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa. His team found that for people with multiple chronic conditions, having access to primary care was associated with lower costs and higher odds of premature mortality.
