REGISTER: Which hospitals are spending their fair share on communities?
Nonprofit hospitals receive substantial tax breaks worth tens of billions each year. But how many hospitals actually give back to communities as much as they receive in tax benefits? As more than 100 million Americans face medical debt, it’s increasingly important that hospitals give back their fair share in assistance.
Join the Lown Institute as we discuss the impact of hospital fair share spending on medical debt and reveal which hospitals give back the most – and least – to their communities.
Last year, our research found a substantial fair share deficit across the nation: $18.4 billion. In New York City alone, the deficit reached $727 million. That’s a lot of money that could be going toward more impactful initiatives like affordable housing and eliminating medical debt.
